Truck Overturns at Sokpoe: Cartons of Tomatoes and Spaghetti Scatter on Road

2 min read

An articulated truck transporting cartons of tinned tomatoes and spaghetti from Accra to Togo overturned near the Sokpoe Filling Station on Saturday morning. The incident occurred after the vehicle reportedly developed a mechanical fault during its journey. According to eyewitness accounts, the driver had pulled over to inspect the truck before attempting to continue, but the vehicle suddenly capsized, spilling its cargo across the roadway.

The accident caused a significant disruption as boxes of tinned tomatoes and packets of spaghetti littered the area around the filling station. Quick response from those involved helped contain the situation, with the spilled goods being gathered without further complications. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the driver or any other individuals at the scene.

Local residents have been widely commended for their integrity and restraint in the face of the scattered cargo. Instead of looting the exposed goods, community members allowed the truck operators and authorities to recover the items peacefully, preventing what could have escalated into a more chaotic situation.

The cause of the mechanical fault is still under investigation. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular vehicle maintenance for heavy-duty trucks on long-haul routes. Traffic in the area returned to normal shortly after the cargo was cleared from the road.
