Precious Agbenya, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) activist and communication team member, has sharply criticized Ghana’s current educational structure, describing it as outdated and inadequate for the modern job market. Speaking on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during the premiere of TƆKƆ ATƆLIA, a political talk show hosted by Volta Today, Agbenya argued that the colonial-era system inherited from the West has failed Ghanaian youth by heavily prioritizing theoretical knowledge over practical skills training.

Highlighting the stark realities confronting graduates across the country, Agbenya noted that the current curriculum leaves many young people ill-prepared to navigate the economic landscape. He pointed out that despite spending years acquiring formal qualifications, school leavers are often left stranded without actionable skills needed to drive self-reliance or thrive in competitive industries.
In a vivid assessment of graduate unemployment, Agbenya remarked that most young people finish school only to carry their certificates "under their armpits" while hopelessly searching for non-existent white-collar jobs. He stressed that a system focused purely on memorization prevents graduates from becoming self-starters who can innovate and build enterprises of their own.

Concluding his address, the NDC communicator called for an urgent reform of Ghana’s educational framework to emphasize entrepreneurship, vocational expertise, and hands-on practical training. He urged policymakers to realign school curricula with contemporary market needs, ensuring that future graduates leave academic institutions equipped to create job opportunities rather than relying solely on traditional employment.
