A man believed to be in his 50s, popularly known as Akpefuadu, has tragically lost his life after being electrocuted during a funeral ceremony along the Akatsi–Xavi Road. The incident occurred in the aftermath of yesterday’s heavy rainstorm, which left the area wet and heightened electrical hazards. Eyewitnesses described the heartbreaking scene as community members gathered to mourn, unaware of the danger that would soon unfold under the stormy conditions.
According to reports, the deceased was sheltering under a canopy when strong winds suddenly lifted it. The canopy reportedly came into contact with a nearby building or an exposed electrical wire, causing it to become electrically energized. Standing barefoot on the wet ground, Akpefuadu was unable to escape the current that passed through his body, turning a moment of communal shelter into a fatal accident.
Bystanders immediately attempted to rescue him but were forced to stay back due to the live electrical hazard. It was only after personnel from the Electricity Company of Ghana arrived and disconnected the power that he could be reached. He was rushed to the nearest hospital, where medical personnel sadly pronounced him dead on arrival.
The exact circumstances and technical cause of the electrocution are expected to be thoroughly investigated by the relevant authorities. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved family, friends, and the entire Akatsi community as they navigate this profound loss. May the soul of Akpefuadu rest in perfect peace.
