Former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, has called on Ghana’s mining stakeholders to put an end to environmentally harmful practices in the extraction of the nation's natural resources.
Speaking at the National Mining Dialogue at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, August 18, Prof. Oquaye reminded operators and leaders that they are merely custodians of the land, not its permanent owners.
"The land on which we live and move belongs to the past, present, and unborn generations. Anyone managing these resources at any point must remember that they are only caretakers," he stated.
He urged decision-makers to strike a proper balance between economic gains from mining and the urgent need to protect Ghana’s ecosystem for future generations.
