Effutu Member of Parliament and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has reiterated the opposition’s commitment to holding GoldBod accountable, insisting that scrutiny over the management of the country's public gold reserves will persist.

Speaking during a Minority press conference at Parliament on Tuesday, August 18, Mr. Afenyo-Markin asserted that the opposition is fully aware of its oversight duties and will not be deterred from demanding transparency from public institutions.

"We're not ignorant; we know our job," he stated.

His remarks come in response to a contentious exchange with GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi regarding the state entity's true financial standing.

Mr. Gyamfi strongly rejected claims that the state-owned enterprise incurred financial losses, dismissing the assertions as a "blatant lie" stemming from Mr. Afenyo-Markin's "hallucinatory imagination."

To back his stance, the GoldBod CEO pointed to the institution's audited 2025 financial report, which he said reflects an operational surplus of GH¢907 million and a overall net surplus of GH¢5.4 billion.

Undeterred by those figures, Mr. Afenyo-Markin maintained that the Minority will continue to rigorously examine GoldBod’s operational practices and raise critical questions regarding the stewardship of Ghana's gold assets.
