On Monday, August 17, 2026, the Ghanaian government welcomed 87 citizens back home from South Africa. This group marks the 11th batch of evacuees to arrive under the second phase of the government's repatriation effort following xenophobic violence in South Africa.
A delegation led by Ambassador Harold Agyeman, Coordinating Director for Political and Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received the returnees at the Accra International Airport alongside senior government officials and ministry staff.
Addressing the arrival group, Ambassador Agyeman reaffirmed the government's resolve to assist them with settling back into their local communities. He urged the returnees to stay optimistic and leverage the professional skills and personal experiences they gained abroad to rebuild their livelihoods and support national development.
He also revealed that, under the direction of President John Dramani Mahama, the government has arranged support packages to help ease their transition and resettlement process back home.
