Firefighters from the Volta Regional Headquarters Sub-Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully prevented a major blaze after a fire broke out at a local mechanic shop on S.D.A. Road in Ho on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
The GNFS dispatched a firefighting crew led by Assistant Divisional Officer Grade I (ADO I) Dennis Tay immediately after receiving a distress call at 11:27 a.m.
Thanks to the crew's rapid response, the fire was brought under control before it could spread to adjacent properties, including a nearby fertilizer storage warehouse. While no injuries or fatalities were reported, the outbreak destroyed an unregistered Mercedes-Benz sedan and 13 vehicle doors.
Preliminary findings indicate that uncontrolled open burning near the shop triggered the incident. Following the event, the GNFS reiterated its advice to the public to refrain from indiscriminate burning and to strictly adhere to basic fire safety protocols.
