The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has announced that a biometric attendance system will soon be fully deployed to track the presence of Members of Parliament (MPs) during sittings.
This initiative is part of a wider effort by the Parliamentary Service to upgrade its administrative and technological infrastructure, aiming to enhance transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency within the House.
Once operational, MPs will log their attendance using designated biometric consoles, replacing the traditional manual signing of the attendance register.
Speaking to Parliament on November 3, Speaker Bagbin highlighted that the new system will generate accurate and verifiable records of members' participation. He emphasized that the legislature must adopt modern technology to meet rising public expectations for efficiency in government business.
He noted that alongside the biometric system, the Parliamentary Service will introduce several administrative and digital updates during the current session to streamline proceedings and improve overall effectiveness.
