Military Nightingales Launch 2026 Celebrations at 37 Military Hospital

​The Ghana Armed Forces Health Services officially launched the 2026 Nightingales’ Celebration on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the 37 Military Hospital. Centered on the theme, “Military Nightingales: Empowered to Serve with Excellence in Ghana and Peacekeeping Missions; To Save Lives for Our Future,” the launch featured a series of events, including a health walk, a float, and a community medical outreach program at the 37 Lorry Station. Welcoming participants, Chief Nursing Officer Colonel Vivian Malvin Adzah praised the nurses and midwives for their unwavering dedication and urged them to uphold Florence Nightingale’s iconic legacy throughout a week filled with workshops, seminars, retired staff engagements, and a trade fair.

​Distinguished leaders at the ceremony emphasized the crucial role military healthcare providers play both locally and internationally. Event Chairman Rear Admiral Maxwell Arhen highlighted that Military Nightingales regularly operate beyond traditional hospital walls to assist during national crises and multinational peacekeeping deployments. Similarly, Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah and Deputy Chief of Staff (Medical) Major General Evelyn Vivian Abraham-Kwabiah lauded the medical personnel for their exceptional professionalism, acknowledging the deep expertise they contribute to the nation’s armed forces.

​Delivering the keynote address, Colonel Vida Otoo (Rtd) called on the nurses and midwives to embody empathy, humility, and dignity in their practice, maintaining their professional "lamps" through compassionate care. She also urged the Military High Command to support these frontline workers by resolving pressing infrastructure challenges, specifically regarding transportation, accommodation, and the renovation of the Armed Forces Nursing Service (ANS) Mess to enhance ongoing clinical training at the facility.

​The high-profile event drew senior military leadership and key healthcare stakeholders from across the country. Service commanders were represented by Brigadier General Kwesi Ayimah and Air Commodore Samuel Offei. Other prominent attendees included 37 Military Hospital Commander Brigadier General Richard Mensah, Director General of Medical and Dental Services Brigadier General Clement Laryea, and Acting Director General of Nursing and Midwifery Colonel Francis Aba Amakyi, alongside various commanding officers and department heads.
