Korle-Bu's Cardiothoracic Centre Receives Major Boost as Quantum LC and WBHO Donates £75.000 Worth Medical Equipment

The National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCTC) has bolstered its surgical infrastructure following a generous donation of a latest-generation LivaNova 3T heater-cooler unit, valued at €75,000, from Quantum LC and WBHO. Replacing an older generation model, this advanced apparatus upgrades the Centre’s cardiopulmonary bypass system used during open-heart surgeries, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and patient safety during critical cardiovascular procedures.

​The motivation behind the contribution stems from a long-standing relationship between the institutions. Dr. Joseph Titus Glover, Chief Executive of Quantum LC, reaffirmed the company's commitment to supporting essential medical services at the NCTC. Accepting the unit, Director of the Cardio Centre Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah expressed profound gratitude, tracing the partnership back to school days at Achimota School and noting how that enduring friendship has now translated into life-saving support for Ghanaian heart patients.

​This equipment donation builds on a growing synergy between the organizations, following a recent medical outreach where NCTC staff provided cardiac screenings and services to Quantum LC and WBHO workers and residents in their mining catchment areas. Both leadership teams emphasized that this latest milestone marks just one step in their partnership, with plans to deepen collaborative efforts and expand access to specialized cardiac care across Ghana in the coming years.
