2 min read

Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has celebrated 103 years of service to humanity by paying tribute to its founders, past leaders, and generations of staff whose dedication and sacrifices shaped the institution.

Delivering an address on behalf of the Chief Executive, Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, who was away on official duty, the Director of Medical Affairs, Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, commended the visionaries who established the hospital's strong foundation.

Dr. Owusu-Sekyere highlighted the hospital’s rich history as a major milestone and called on the current workforce to uphold that legacy.

“Numerous individuals have contributed to the story of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital over the decades. Today, it is our responsibility to play our part in ensuring the institution continues to flourish. We must keep in mind that we are not the final chapter. Future generations will build upon the foundations we leave behind,” he stated.

First established on October 9, 1923, the hospital marked the occasion with a brief ceremony where management and staff reflected on its contributions to clinical care, healthcare advocacy, medical research, training, and medical tourism.

The event featured a cake-cutting ceremony led by the Central Management Team, a toast to the future, the symbolic release of 103 balloons, and musical performances by the Korle Bu Chorale.

Addressing ongoing developments, Dr. Owusu-Sekyere pointed to recent advancements such as the newly commissioned Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory as proof of Korle Bu’s commitment to expanding specialized care and enhancing patient outcomes.

While acknowledging that infrastructure growth does not always move as quickly as desired, he reiterated management’s resolve to address existing challenges and upgrade facilities. He concluded by thanking the staff for their unwavering service and urging them to work together to preserve the hospital's legacy for the future.
