The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has mounted a fierce attack on industrial operators in Tema, condemning their failure to contribute meaningfully to the local communities driving their massive corporate revenues. Speaking during a recent inspection of critical road networks and industrial enclaves within the harbor city, the Minister expressed deep frustration at the stark contrast between the multi-million-dollar earnings generated daily in the hub and the decaying state of the surrounding infrastructure and living conditions of the residents.

​Highlighting the historic vision behind Ghana's premier industrial city, Kwame Agbodza invoked the legacy of the nation's founding father, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who designed Tema as a model, self-sustaining city built to uplift its people alongside economic expansion. He stressed that the present dynamic where corporate entities continuously profit from the city’s resources and location while ignoring social responsibility violates the founding ideals of Tema. The Minister pointed out that heavy industrial transport regularly degrades local roads, leaving community members to suffer the consequences of dust, traffic gridlock, and damaged infrastructure.

​Agbodza emphasized that corporate social responsibility must evolve from an occasional charity gesture into a sustained, accountable commitment to urban development. He urged industry leaders to step up and partner with the government in targeted infrastructure initiatives, ranging from road maintenance and drainage improvements to community health and education projects. According to the Roads Minister, relying solely on the public purse to maintain the very ecosystems that power private corporate profits is both unfair and unsustainable.
