The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has directed officials across various health sector institutions cited in the 2025 Auditor-General’s Report to urgently recover and deposit all outstanding public funds into the appropriate government accounts. The directive follows a thorough examination of financial irregularities recorded by health directorates and agencies under the Ministry of Health.
The committee’s review covered selected health directorates and institutions across multiple regions, including the Western, Western North, Volta, Upper East, Upper West, Savannah, Central, Oti, and Greater Accra regions, as well as the National Centre for Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine. The proceedings highlighted systemic operational and financial oversights that continue to drain resources intended for healthcare delivery.
In a key intervention, PAC agreed to settle GH¢17,000 owed to Pantang Hospital by the Ghana Medical Association and GH¢16,100 owed by the Akuapem South Municipal Assembly as part of the committee's Corporate Social Responsibility. The debts were incurred from medical care and shelter provided to individuals living with mental health conditions who were rescued from the streets, relieving the hospital of a critical financial burden.
Expressing deep concern over the persistent recurrence of audit infractions across public health institutions, the committee urged health officials to proactively revisit the Auditor-General’s findings. PAC emphasized the need for administrative accountability, instructing leadership to provide updated responses and ensure that all audit recommendations are fully implemented to prevent further financial leakages.
