Tipper Truck Gutted by Fire on Sogakope Bridge: Traffic Flow Disruptions Managed

2 min read

A tipper truck bearing registration number GN 9479-20 was heavily damaged after catching fire on the Sogakope Bridge in the early hours of Thursday, October 8, 2026. The incident, which occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m., left the vehicle severely burnt across the thoroughfare. The burnt structure of the vehicle created a major obstruction along the critical transit corridor, threatening prolonged disruptions for commuters and commercial transport operators travelling through the area.

In response to the disruption, officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Sogakope Division, dispatched team personnel directly to the scene. Traffic control operations were immediately instituted to guide stranded commuters around the wreckage and secure the perimeter. Police personnel remain actively deployed on the bridge to regulate vehicular movement, avert further congestion, and work toward safely clearing the roadway.

Traffic authorities are urging all motorists approaching and navigating the Sogakope Bridge to exercise extreme caution, lower their speed, and strictly observe directives issued by officers on duty. While emergency clearing operations continue, drivers are advised to remain patient and anticipate minor delays along the route until the obstructed lane is fully restored.

At the time of reporting, authorities have not confirmed the official cause of the sudden blaze. Furthermore, it remains unverified whether any casualties or injuries occurred as a result of the overnight incident, as formal investigations into the event continue.
