The Central North Regional Police Command has dismissed widespread reports alleging that Albert Ogoe, a phone dealer and elder of the Pentecost Church, was kidnapped in the Central Region. Rumors had circulated claiming that unknown abductors seized Mr. Ogoe on October 4, 2026, at Nyankumase Ahenkuro in the Assin South District and were demanding a ransom of GH¢200,000 for his safe release.
Setting the record straight, the Central North Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Edmund Agyemang Badu, clarified that Mr. Ogoe was actually apprehended by officers from the Police Intelligence Unit at the National Police Headquarters. He was arrested at his hideout in connection with an ongoing GH¢200,000 fraud investigation and was subsequently transported to Accra to assist authorities with their inquiries.
Police explanations revealed that the kidnapping narrative stemmed from a misunderstanding after Mr. Ogoe hesitated to inform his family about his detention. Due to his prominent standing as a church elder, he was reluctant to reveal his involvement in a fraud case. Although officers eventually used his phone to notify his wife of the arrest, family members proceeded to file a missing person and abduction report at another police station, sparking false reports in the media.
The Regional Police Command has officially urged the public to disregard the kidnapping claims, assuring community members that law enforcement remains fully dedicated to upholding peace and security across the region.
