The Deputy Chief of Staff Medical (DCOS MED), Major General Evelyn-Vivian Abraham-Kwabiah, paid an official working visit to the 11 Mechanised Battalion at Abilba Barracks on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The primary objective of the visit was to evaluate the progress of the ongoing construction of the Regimental Aid Post (RAP) and assess the operational challenges currently hindering medical delivery at the Battalion. Furthermore, the engagement aimed to strengthen collaboration between the RAP and the Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services to enhance healthcare infrastructure.
During the visit, the Senior Medical Officer, Captain Adafula Stephen, briefed Major General Abraham-Kwabiah on the status of the new RAP facility and outlined critical issues impacting healthcare delivery, particularly highlighting shortages in equipment and staff. Captain Stephen expressed gratitude to the DCOS MED for her steadfast dedication to military healthcare standards, while appealing for additional medical supplies and personnel to better support the unit's healthcare demands.
In her tour of the Battalion, Major General Abraham-Kwabiah reassured the medical staff of her firm commitment to backing initiatives that drive quality healthcare delivery across the armed forces. She emphasized the critical role a healthy force plays in defending the security and territorial integrity of the nation. Demonstrating mutual appreciation, the Commanding Officer of the 11 Mechanised Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Kobbie Boako, presented the DCOS MED with a plaque and gifts in honor of her ongoing efforts to improve medical services.
Major General Abraham-Kwabiah was accompanied by a high-level military and medical delegation, including the Commander of the Tamale Field Hospital, Brig Gen Percy Annan; Director General Medical Support Services, Brig Gen Michael Antiaye Addy; and Acting Director General of Nursing and Midwifery, Col Francisca Aba Amakyi. The delegation also comprised Chief Nursing Officer Col Samson Iddi, Deputy Director of Allied Health-Diagnostics Lt Col Jude Boahen, Finance Officer Major Peter Damiana, and Director of Mental Health Dr. Erica Dickson.
