The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched a heightened fire safety awareness campaign in parts of the Eastern Region, targeting traders, artisans, students, and residents across Kwahu Tafo, Anyinam, and Akropong.
In Kwahu Tafo, personnel from the Aduamoa District Fire Command sensitized local business owners including barbers, seamstresses, cold store operators, and shopkeepers as well as tricycle operators and households. The training focused on practical fire prevention methods, safe electrical usage, LPG handling, and emergency response techniques.
Similarly, officers from the Anyinam Fire Station engaged local merchants on the risks associated with unauthorized electrical wiring, overloaded power outlets, unsafe gas handling, and the poor storage of flammable substances. The team also emphasized the importance of acquiring fire permits and reporting outbreaks promptly.
At Akropong, the educational campaign reached students at the Perseverance Clothing Fashion School. The session provided hands-on training on preventing electrical fires, identifying damaged cables, safely disconnecting power before managing electrical hazards, and operating fire extinguishers effectively.
