Ghana Police Rescue Kidnapped Victim and Arrest Four Suspects in Major Intelligence Operation

​The Central North Regional Police Command, led by DCOP Abraham Acquaye alongside regional crime officers and elite units, has successfully disrupted a violent kidnapping, torture, and extortion syndicate. Coordinated directly by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohonu, "Operation Rescue the Victim and Arrest the Perpetrators" led to the safe rescue of 30-year-old Bismarck Amo and the arrest of four key suspects. Those currently in custody include Kumasi Girls Senior High School teachers Mavis Badu Acheampong (42) and Kenneth Opoku Kwarteng, alongside Breman UGC residents Charles Doku (53) and Oteng Baffour (31).

​The incident originated from a dispute where the victim, Bismarck Amo, allegedly defrauded suspect Mavis Badu Acheampong of an unspecified sum of money. In response, Mavis allegedly conspired with her husband a senior military officer currently out of the country and lured Amo from Assin Fosu to Kumasi. Supported by Doku, Baffour, and other accomplices, the group forcefully abducted Amo and held him hostage at Mavis’s private residence from September 6 to September 11, 2026.

​During his captivity, the victim was subjected to horrific physical abuse; he was stripped, tied with nylon rope, and severely beaten until he suffered extensive bleeding from his head and genitals. The syndicate filmed the violence and sent the footage to Amo’s family to demand GH₵ 45,000. Although the family transferred GH₵ 19,500 via mobile money, the kidnappers demanded an additional GH₵ 30,500 under the threat of executing the victim, prompting the family to report the crime to the Regional CID in Assin Fosu on September 8.

​On September 11, as police tracking teams closed in, the suspects attempted to relocate the victim by roadside abandonment. Tactical units intercepted them mid-transit and rescued Amo, who was found partially unconscious, severely bruised, and drenched in blood. Amo was immediately rushed to a medical facility under police escort, while the four suspects remain in custody awaiting court processing. Law enforcement continues to actively pursue the senior military officer and other remaining accomplices, reiterating that vigilante justice and self-help criminal actions will face the full weight of the law.
