Ghana Battalion Completes Command Transition in UNIFIL Peacekeeping Mission

​The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 92 has formally transferred operational authority to GHANBATT 93 during a transfer of command ceremony at the Battalion Headquarters in Al-Qawzah on Thursday, 10 September 2026.

​The ceremony brought together international peacekeepers and senior officers from Sector West Headquarters to witness the outgoing Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Evans Yaw Mensah Komedjah, hand over leadership to the incoming Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Bortey Newson.

​Delivering his address as the Guest of Honour, Sector Commander Brigadier General Andrea Bertazzo emphasized the significance of the occasion, noting that every change of command represents a pivotal moment for a military unit. He stressed that current regional security challenges require strong leadership, courage, and unwavering resolve across all operational duties.

​Brigadier General Bertazzo commended Lieutenant Colonel Komedjah and the personnel of GHANBATT 92 for their dedication and distinguished service under tough conditions. He also welcomed the incoming battalion, expressing full confidence in Lieutenant Colonel Newson and his team to carry forward the mission's mandate effectively.

​Reflecting on his tenure, Lieutenant Colonel Komedjah described leading GHANBATT 92 as one of the greatest honors of his military career. He praised his troops for their resilience and bravery, specifically acknowledging their fortitude following a severe indirect rocket attack on 6 March that injured several service members.
