Officers from the Accra Regional Police Command have shot and killed an armed robbery suspect during a targeted tactical operation around the Agbogbloshie enclave. Acting on actionable intelligence regarding an impending gang heist, specialized units intercepted the armed group near a local police checkpoint, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The intelligence-led swoop targeted four suspects who were reportedly navigating the area on two motorbikes toward a local filling station. Upon confronting the law enforcement team at the barrier, the suspects opened fire, triggering a immediate response from the tactical officers. One suspect was mortally wounded in the crossfire, while his three accomplices managed to abandon their motorbikes and flee into the surrounding neighborhood.
A thorough search of the scene yielded an AK-47 assault rifle equipped with a high-capacity double magazine holding 136 live rounds, alongside an additional 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition, bringing the total haul to 186 rounds. Officers also seized the two unregistered motorbikes used by the gang to serve as key physical evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The wounded suspect was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital for emergency medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival. His body has been moved to the mortuary for autopsy and identification, while law enforcement authorities have launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the three fleeing gang members.
