2 min read

Abla Dzifa Gomashie has emphasized the importance of balancing technology and cultural identity in raising the next generation, stating that Ghana must produce children who are both technologically adept and culturally grounded. Speaking during her working visit to the Upper West Region, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts stressed that while the world is rapidly evolving through digital innovation and modern technology, Ghanaian children must not lose touch with their traditions, values, and cultural heritage. According to her, preserving cultural identity is essential to national development and social cohesion.

During the visit, Hon. Gomashie highlighted the crucial role tourism, culture, and creativity play in Ghana’s economic growth and development agenda. She explained that investing in the creative and tourism sectors can create jobs, empower local communities, and strengthen the country’s global cultural presence. The Minister noted that Ghana’s cultural diversity and heritage remain valuable national assets that must be protected and promoted through education, storytelling, music, fashion, and community engagement.

She further encouraged Ghanaians to actively support domestic tourism, describing it as an important tool for fostering national unity and driving local economic development. According to her, when citizens travel within the country to explore different regions, cultures, and historical sites, they not only strengthen national identity but also contribute directly to businesses and livelihoods in local communities. Hon. Gomashie added that tourism has the potential to bridge cultural gaps while creating opportunities for young people in hospitality, arts, entertainment, and entrepreneurship.

As part of efforts to celebrate and promote Ghanaian culture globally, the Minister announced that celebrated Ghanaian musician Wiyaala will be honoured as a tourism ambassador for her exceptional contribution to promoting northern Ghanaian culture. Wiyaala has gained international recognition for proudly showcasing traditional northern attire, music, and cultural values on global platforms. Hon. Gomashie praised the musician for consistently using her talent and influence to project authentic Ghanaian identity to the world through music, fashion, and community initiatives.

Her message reinforced the idea that while innovation and digital skills are necessary for global competitiveness, cultural heritage remains equally important in shaping responsible, confident, and identity-conscious citizens. The visit also reaffirmed government efforts to position culture and tourism as strategic pillars for sustainable national development.
