Nine individuals have been taken into custody by the Volta Regional Criminal Investigations Department (RCID) following the collapse of a mobile money and social media fraud scheme based in Dabala.
Led by Chief Superintendent Mick Omari Boakye, the operation began on August 12, 2026, after multiple victims alerted the Ho RCID about ongoing mobile money scams. Intelligence gathered during the initial investigation revealed that the network illegally registered numerous MTN and Telecel SIM cards using stolen identities. They then created fraudulent accounts across Facebook, TikTok, and WhatsApp to promote fake, low-cost data bundle sales.
On August 13, 2026, police executed a targeted raid in Dabala, capturing nine suspects:
Williams Avi (18)
Elikplim Hedidor (17)
Clever Ablordepey (22)
Abel Logo (22)
Godfred Ablordepey (19)
Yonah Aniaku (19)
Wemegah Seth (20)
David Kalvor (20)
Emmanuel Ahu (20)
Officers confiscated 31 mobile devices and 46 Telecel and MTN SIM cards from the scene, all of which are being held as evidence.
Law enforcement confirmed that the investigation remains active as they work to uncover additional victims, quantify total financial losses, locate illicit funds, and track down remaining co-conspirators. The police department continues to caution the public to exercise extreme care when engaging with online sales, mobile money transfers, and unverified links.
