The outgoing Executive Committee of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Students’ Association (GANDSA) has donated teaching and learning equipment valued at GH¢11,000 to the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. The donation forms part of the graduating class’s commitment to giving back to the department and supporting the training of future nutrition and dietetics professionals.

The presentation ceremony took place on Monday, June 15, 2026, and was led by the association’s President, Ms. Agnes Akosua Owusu, and Vice President, Ms. Christabel Arthur. The two executives represented both the graduating year group and the outgoing GANDSA leadership, highlighting the association’s dedication to enhancing academic excellence and practical learning within the department.

The donated equipment includes a projector, HemoCue devices, stadiometers, Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) machines, blood pressure monitors, skinfold calipers, a food scale, and microtoise height measuring tools. These instruments are essential for nutrition assessment, dietary evaluation, anthropometric measurements, and health screening, all of which are critical components of dietetics education and practice.

According to the student leaders, the donation was motivated by the need to strengthen hands-on learning opportunities for students. They noted that access to modern assessment and diagnostic tools would help bridge the gap between classroom instruction and real-world professional practice, enabling students to gain practical skills and confidence before entering the workforce.

Receiving the items on behalf of the School of Allied Health Sciences, Professor Fidelis Kpodo, Acting Dean of the School, expressed profound appreciation to the students for their thoughtful gesture. He emphasized that the equipment would significantly enhance the department’s capacity to train competent nutrition and dietetics professionals and support its mission of producing highly skilled dietitians capable of addressing Ghana’s growing health and nutrition challenges.
