2 min read

The Teacher Training Association of Ghana (TTAG) has held a crucial stakeholder meeting with the National Teaching Council (NTC) to discuss proposed reforms to the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) and chart the future direction of the teacher licensure process. The engagement, which took place on 23rd June 2026 at the NTC Headquarters in Accra, brought together representatives from TTAG and student leaders from various teacher training institutions. The meeting provided a platform for constructive dialogue on enhancing the licensure system to better align with the needs of teacher trainees and the broader education sector.

Key issues deliberated during the meeting included the possible integration of the GTLE into final examinations, comprehensive preparations for the upcoming September 2026 examination, and additional measures aimed at strengthening the overall teacher licensing framework. Participants explored ways to streamline the process while maintaining high professional standards. These discussions reflect ongoing efforts to address challenges faced by teacher trainees and to implement reforms that promote efficiency and fairness in the licensure system.

TTAG used the platform to reaffirm its unwavering commitment to representing the interests and concerns of teacher trainees in national education policy conversations. The association highlighted the need for teacher trainees’ voices to be adequately considered in decisions that directly impact their professional journey. By actively engaging with the NTC, TTAG continues to play a pivotal role in advocating for policies that support aspiring teachers across the country.

The association further emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure that reforms within the teacher licensing framework contribute meaningfully to quality teacher preparation and professional development. Both TTAG and the NTC expressed optimism that the outcomes of the meeting would lead to practical improvements in the licensure process, ultimately benefiting the teaching profession and Ghana’s education system as a whole.
