Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, Member of Parliament for Adaklu and Minister for Roads and Highways, has joined the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, on a two-day “Reset Agenda” working tour of the Savannah Region.
The tour forms part of government’s broader effort to accelerate infrastructure development and assess the progress of critical projects aimed at transforming livelihoods across northern Ghana.
The Minister’s participation in the regional tour comes shortly after his visit to Adaklu-Helekpe in the Volta Region, where he assessed the impact of the recent mudslide disaster that displaced several residents and destroyed properties. During the visit, Hon. Agbodza commiserated with affected families, inspected the damaged areas, and supported injured victims receiving treatment at the hospital. His swift response to the disaster highlighted government’s commitment to providing relief and ensuring the wellbeing of affected communities.
As part of the Savannah Regional engagements, President Mahama and Hon. Agbodza are inspecting key infrastructure and road development projects being executed under the government’s transformative “Big Push” agenda. Among the major projects on the itinerary are the ongoing reconstruction works on the Sawla–Wa Highway and the Bole–Tinga Road. The projects are expected to significantly improve transportation, enhance trade activities, and strengthen economic integration within the northern corridor of the country.
Government says the road projects are critical to opening up rural communities, facilitating the movement of agricultural produce, and improving access to essential services. The Roads and Highways Minister reiterated government’s determination to ensure the timely completion of the projects, stressing that improved road infrastructure remains central to national development and economic growth. He added that the “Big Push” initiative is designed to bridge infrastructure gaps and stimulate investment opportunities across all regions.
Following the Savannah Region tour, Hon. Agbodza is expected to proceed to the Northern Region with a team of technocrats from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, alongside engineers from the Ghana Highways Authority and the Departments of Urban Roads and Feeder Roads. The team will inspect the progress of several major road infrastructure projects in Tamale and surrounding areas to evaluate ongoing works and address implementation challenges.
Key projects lined up for inspection include the Tamale 3rd Ring Road (Phase 1), a major orbital bypass expected to ease congestion within the Tamale Central Business District by linking communities such as Kanvilli, Jisonaayili, Tuunaayili, Fuo-Taha, Banvim, Junshegu, Dungu, and Kpalsi. The delegation will also inspect the Tamale–Yendi–Tatale Road Project, a 168.98-kilometre initiative aimed at boosting socio-economic development and agricultural transportation, as well as the proposed Tamale Outer Ring Road, which is intended to divert heavy freight traffic and improve mobility within the Tamale Metropolis. Government says these projects demonstrate its unwavering commitment to delivering modern road infrastructure that enhances transportation and improves the quality of life for Ghanaians nationwide.
