Following the official launch of the Turnkey Electrification Project designed to connect 206 communities across the Volta Region to the national grid within six months the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, met with officials from GRIDCo, ECG, relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), as well as project contractors.
The meeting focused on securing the prompt release of required lands to ensure the project moves forward without delay. During the discussions, representatives from the MDAs highlighted growing concerns over ECG over-billing, which continues to burden local residents. Hon. James Gunu called on ECG management to address these billing issues swiftly and decisively.
Additionally, the Regional Minister charged contractors to prioritize local labor, urging them to hire the majority of their workforce directly from the beneficiary communities. He emphasized that the project must deliver both reliable power and direct economic benefits, including job creation, for the people of the Volta Region.
