NPP Volta Secretariat Invalidates Regional Chairman’s Recent Appointments

1 min read

The Volta Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has publicly rejected a series of appointments made by the Regional Chairman, Makafui Woanyah, citing a breach of party procedure.

In a formal statement released on August 26, 2026, and signed by the Regional Secretariat through Shabanton Moses Kwesi Dutsrogbé, the party executives clarified that the decisions were not sanctioned by the broader regional executive body.

The Secretariat pointed to Article 9(10) of the NPP Constitution, which stipulates that newly elected Regional Officers must jointly consult with the National Executive Committee within 14 days of taking office to approve appointed roles.

According to the statement, no official executive meeting has been held since the elections to discuss, review, or ratify any regional appointments.

Because the leadership team was not involved in the decision-making process, the Secretariat maintained that the Chairman's list cannot be recognized as an official outcome of the regional executive committee.

The disagreement emerged shortly after Mr. Woanyah published a notice announcing 10 new regional officer appointments. The Secretariat has called on party members and the public to disregard the announcement, emphasizing that official positions must reflect the collective agreement of all elected officers.
