A team of dedicated fire safety educators from the Nkoranza Fire Station, supervised by Divisional Officer III (DO III) Hamilton Gyan, conducted a comprehensive fire safety sensitization workshop for about fifty students at the Anglican University College of Technology in Nkoranza on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The educational exercise was organized to deepen the students' knowledge on fire prevention, equip them with essential emergency response skills, and build a culture of safety within both domestic and academic environments.
During the interactive session, the safety team instructed participants on the fundamental chemistry of combustion and highlighted common everyday practices that frequently cause domestic and institutional fires. To ensure practical understanding, the fire officers led a hands-on demonstration showing students how to effectively smother fires using a wet jute sack and how to operate a standard fire extinguisher safely in a controlled environment.
The workshop concluded with an open interactive session, giving students the platform to air common misconceptions regarding the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). The education team thoroughly addressed their concerns, providing clarity on operational procedures while reinforcing emergency preparedness measures. The exercise left the students better prepared to serve as safety ambassadors in their campus community and homes.
