GES Interdicts Obuasi SHTS Headmaster Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations

2 min read

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially interdicted Mr. Zakaria Abdulai, the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti Region, pending the outcome of a full-scale investigation into severe allegations of sexual misconduct involving students. The press release, issued by the GES Public Relations Unit on October 14, 2026, confirms that the sanction takes immediate effect as the service moves to address the growing controversy.

The allegations against Mr. Abdulai recently sparked a violent student rampage on campus, leading to widespread destruction of school property and other assets. In the wake of the unrest and damage, school authorities were forced to temporarily close down the institution to restore order and safeguard the student body.

Following his interdiction, Mr. Abdulai has been directed to hand over the management of Obuasi Senior High Technical School to the Regional Director of Education. Additionally, he is required to remain available to assist with the ongoing internal probe, while an official complaint has also been lodged with the Police for criminal investigation.

In the statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the management reassured parents, guardians, and the general public of its commitment to safeguarding the safety of both students and staff. The service further emphasized its resolve to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and integrity across all educational institutions in the country.
