President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut the sod for the construction of the 1,238-acre Afienya Industrial Park, a flagship initiative designed to accelerate local manufacturing, attract international investment, and generate thousands of sustainable jobs. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, 15 October 2026, the President emphasized that the state-of-the-art industrial hub will serve as a cornerstone for Ghana’s broader economic transformation and export expansion agenda.

The expansive development is engineered to host over 120 enterprises, offering a fully integrated industrial ecosystem. To streamline operations for incoming businesses, the park will feature comprehensive, world-class infrastructure, including high-capacity power systems, dedicated water supply, modern road networks, and centralized waste treatment facilities. This plug-and-play design aims to significantly lower entry barriers and operational delays for manufacturing firms establishing operations in the country.

Addressing attendees at the ceremony, President Mahama explained that the project responds directly to urgent market demand, as the adjacent Tema Export Processing Zone has reached maximum capacity. He further revealed that the government’s upcoming $10 billion New Economy Programme, set to launch next year, will provide critical funding to build out the park’s primary infrastructure a strategic move aimed at substituting costly imports with domestically produced goods while boosting non-traditional exports.

Following the formal ceremony, President Mahama toured existing industrial facilities in the enclave, reiterating his administration's deliberate strategy to unlock industrial potential across key sectors. He reassured the private sector that the government remains deeply committed to creating a resilient business environment, expanding manufacturing capacity, and ensuring long-term employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
