Akatsi South Municipal Assembly Unveils New City-Center Bus Stop

2 min read

The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has officially commissioned a newly built bus stop during a brief ceremony in Akatsi to tackle long-standing traffic congestion in the commercial heart of the town.

Previously, the main road passing through the Akatsi township lacked dedicated bus stop facilities. This design omission forced commercial drivers to park in unauthorized spots to pick up, drop off, and load passengers or cargo. The resulting traffic chaos led to continuous friction between drivers, local police, and municipal authorities.

To permanently resolve the issue, the Assembly initiated the bus stop project two months ago, culminating in its official opening on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

Speaking at the event, Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Daniel Dagba appealed to drivers to utilize the facility responsibly and called on various driver unions to foster unity and teamwork. He further instructed the police service to strictly enforce traffic laws and deal firmly with any recalcitrant motorists.

Responding to the directive, the Municipal Police Commander promised strict enforcement of the Road Traffic Regulation 2026 (LI 2319). He advised all citizens and commercial drivers to obtain a copy of the law and noted that the police force will lead awareness campaigns to familiarize the public with its provisions.

The commissioning was attended by traditional leaders, Assembly Members, police officials, municipal staff, driver union representatives, and journalists.

Expressing satisfaction with the development, Togbui Aho IV noted that the project comes barely a week after the commissioning of the nearby Avenor Community Bank PLC branch. He urged drivers to maintain the new bus stop properly and maintain peace among competing driver groups.
