Volta Regional Minister Mourns with Avatime Traditional Council Following Paramount Queen Mother’s Passing

​The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, paid a courtesy call on the Avatime Traditional Council at Avatime Vane to express his condolences following the passing of the Paramount Queen Mother, Onetsitsie Osei Yawa VIII, known in private life as Paulina Ama Abofua. Hon. Gunu extended his sympathy to the Paramount Chief, traditional leaders, the bereaved family, and the people of Avatime, offering prayers for strength and comfort as the traditional area navigates this difficult period of mourning.

​Demonstrating the government’s support during the mourning period, Hon. Gunu was accompanied by the District Chief Executive for Ho West and a delegation representing the local Member of Parliament. To assist with the upcoming royal transition and traditions, the Minister and his delegation presented cash and essential items to the Traditional Council to aid in the preparations for the final rites.

​The final funeral rites for the late Paramount Queen Mother are scheduled to take place on Saturday, 26th September 2026, at the Avatime Vane Park. Community members, dignitaries, and well-wishers will gather at the grounds for the Funeral Service and traditional proceedings, which will precede her private journey to join the ancestors and the conclusion of the solemn rites.
