Ghanaian Pastor on the Run as National Security Uncovers $5.2M Counterfeit Syndicate in Klagon Church

A Ghanaian pastor, Rev. Emmanuel Boakye-Danquah, is currently on the run after operatives from the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) dismantled a major counterfeiting ring allegedly operating directly out of his church premises in Klagon, near Lashibi. According to security officials, tactical units raided the headquarters of the religious facility and uncovered that its administrative offices and residential quarters were being used as a high-capacity production and storage hub for fake currency. During the swoop, authorities confiscated specialized printing equipment, two operational vehicles, and massive stockpiles of unprocessed currency coupons valued at over US$5.2 million, CFA 623 million, and GH¢7.1 million. 

​The National Security Council Secretariat revealed that the operation was part of a broader, intelligence-led crackdown on transnational currency syndicates exploiting places of worship across the Greater Accra Region. Investigators noted that criminal networks deliberately targeted religious facilities to mask the loud noise and heavy vibrations generated by industrial printing presses, using the sacred cover of the church to evade law enforcement suspicion while storing vast amounts of illicit materials. Across six coordinated raids, security forces arrested 16 individuals including both Ghanaian and foreign nationals and seized multiple printing machines, vehicles, and millions in both finished and unprocessed fake banknotes. 

​While 16 members of the network have been remanded into custody and face ongoing prosecution at the Accra High Court, Rev. Boakye-Danquah remains at large. Further searches conducted at his private residence in Amasaman uncovered what investigators described as a fully equipped secondary printing facility containing additional presses and fake currency stock. Special intelligence units have been deployed across the country to track down and arrest the fugitive pastor, while state prosecutors move to forfeit all assets and equipment seized during the multi-agency operation.
