Three suspected kidnappers have been taken into custody by the Northern Regional Police Command following the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, also known as Haruna, near Yendi.
The suspects 32-year-old Mahumudu Abdulai, 32-year-old Ganiu Sumaila, and 28-year-old Abdulai Salam were apprehended on September 29, 2026, across various locations in Sang, situated within the Mion District.
According to preliminary police findings, four armed men broke into the victim’s residence on September 25, 2026, attacking him and his brother before abducting him. The perpetrators subsequently contacted the victim’s family, demanding a ransom of GH¢100,000 for his safe return.
However, the victim managed to break free from his captors. Local farmers in Sambu assisted him and brought him to a nearby health facility for medical care. Police officers dispatched to the clinic interviewed the victim, who explained that he had been held at an undisclosed location under armed guard before making his escape.
While receiving treatment, the victim positively identified all three suspects from photograph lineups. Investigators also note that the trio is believed to be linked to multiple robbery cases reported in the area.
All three individuals remain in police custody as investigations continue, while law enforcement officers actively pursue the remaining accomplices involved in the crime.
