The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has officially inaugurated the Volta Regional Fire Service Committee as part of strategic efforts to enhance fire safety management across the region. The newly formed committee is tasked with strengthening inter-agency coordination, operational oversight, and collaborative measures to combat fire outbreaks effectively. During the ceremony, Hon. Gunu administered both the Oath of Office and the Oath of Secrecy to the members, officially ushering them into their designated roles and responsibilities.
The inaugurated committee features a broad cross-section of key regional stakeholders and administrative leaders. It includes Alhaji Mohammed Avona Akape, the Chief Director of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), who serves as the Committee’s Secretary. Other members bringing essential expertise to the team are Madam Celestina Arku Esi, the Regional State Attorney; ADO I Dzivenu Anthony; Togbe Agorku III, representing the Regional House of Chiefs; Mr. Israel Enam Tettey; and Mr. Yanick Noah Agboado.
Addressing the inaugurates, Hon. Gunu charged the committee members to approach their mandate with unwavering commitment, high professionalism, and absolute integrity. He highlighted the urgent need to move beyond standard operational routines by placing a major emphasis on proactive measures. Specifically, the Minister called for robust strategies aimed at fortifying fire prevention, boosting regional disaster preparedness, and streamlining emergency response mechanisms.
By establishing this dedicated committee, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council aims to build a more resilient infrastructure capable of protecting communities, critical state assets, and businesses. Stakeholders expect that the committee’s legal, administrative, traditional, and technical expertise will foster seamless cooperation between the Ghana National Fire Service and local communities, ultimately minimizing fire-related disasters and safeguarding lives throughout the Volta Region.
