Accra High Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah

​An Accra High Court has granted an arrest warrant authorizing the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to take the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, into custody as part of an ongoing investigation. The judicial order comes after state investigators informed the court that they had exhausted all reasonable measures to secure the lawmaker’s voluntary attendance for questioning. 

​In addition to the power of arrest, the court’s order grants EOCO officers full legal authorization to search for and seize documents and materials deemed relevant to their inquiries. EOCO requested the warrant citing concerns that critical evidence connected to the case could be concealed or destroyed if immediate judicial intervention was not sanctioned. 

​The court's decision follows a chaotic encounter between the MP and law enforcement officers outside court premises. State investigators contend that Baffour Awuah repeatedly failed to honor official invitations extended to him to assist with an inquiry into financial matters involving a client of his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners. 

​However, the lawmaker has publicly disputed EOCO's characterization of events, maintaining that a representative from his former legal firm had already appeared before investigators on his behalf. While the anti-graft agency has yet to formally detail the specific charges or allegations facing the MP, the granting of the judicial warrant now clears the way for law enforcement to legally apprehend him and seize pertinent records.
