Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has advocated for the immediate removal of systemic and institutional barriers that continue to hinder women from fully participating in national development and governance. Speaking at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences Women’s Awards in Accra, the Vice President emphasized that true progress cannot be achieved when half of the nation's population faces persistent structural obstacles in their pursuit of leadership roles. She underscored that empowering women is not merely a political or social formality, but an indispensable driver of sustainable economic growth and societal innovation.
In her address, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the pivotal contributions of Ghanaian women across academia, public policy, and the private sector, praising their resilience in breaking traditional norms. However, she pointed out that deliberate policy interventions, institutional reforms, and sustained mentorship are still required to create an equitable playing field.
