The Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, addressed journalists on the sidelines of the Ghana Law Society (GLS) Annual Bar Conference 2026. Speaking from the event venue, the lawmaker emphasized the critical role legal practitioners must play in shaping modern policy, strengthening democratic institutions, and advancing access to justice across the country.
Held under the timely theme, "Legal Reforms: The Place of the Ghanaian Lawyer," this year’s conference gathered legal luminaries, jurists, and policy experts to deliberate on necessary legislative and structural overhauls in the justice delivery system. In his engagement with the press, Hon. Dafeamekpor noted that reform efforts must be practitioner-led to reflect the evolving legal landscape and address pressing socioeconomic challenges facing everyday citizens.
A seasoned legal mind, Hon. Dafeamekpor brings a wealth of expertise to discussions on law and national governance. A qualified barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana, he has served as the parliamentary representative for South Dayi on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since 2017. His extensive work in Parliament highlights a long-standing commitment to rule-of-law principles, statutory compliance, and institutional efficiency.
Currently, the South Dayi MP serves as the Chairman of the House Committee and holds key membership roles on the Appointments, Business, Selection, and Ways and Means committees. Leveraging his experience from both the courtroom and the floor of Parliament, Hon. Dafeamekpor reiterated the urgency for the legal fraternity to remain proactive, ensuring that upcoming legal reforms remain inclusive, forward-thinking, and centered on safeguarding human rights.
