Heavy torrential rainfall on Monday, 28th September 2026, triggered severe flooding across several communities in the Hohoe Municipality, leaving numerous residents stranded as water levels surged rapidly. The sudden deluge overwhelmed drainage channels and swept through neighborhoods, threatening lives and inundating homes and business centers throughout the affected districts.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Hohoe Fire Station responded swiftly to emergency calls from trapped community members. Led by Divisional Officer Grade III (DOIII) Bismark Hosu-Porbley, a dedicated team of firefighters deployed immediately to the hardest-hit areas, including Star Filling Station, Picnic, Hohoe Central Zongo, Segbedeme, Kitikpa, and Wegbe.
Equipped for emergency water rescue operations, the firefighters navigated rising floodwaters to reach trapped individuals. Through coordinated and rapid evacuation efforts, the team successfully rescued all stranded persons and transported them to safe, secure locations, preventing any loss of life despite the dangerous conditions.
Following the successful operation, the GNFS issued an urgent advisory reminding the public to exercise extreme caution during periods of heavy downpours. Fire officials strongly advise community members to stay away from flooded roadways, drains, and open waterways, and urged residents in low-lying zones to move to higher ground immediately whenever water levels begin to rise.
