Dzelukope and Keta were struck by heavy rain early this morning, resulting in flooding across several low-lying areas, including Agorte and Gobah Beach.
The downpour began before dawn and overwhelmed drainage channels in parts of both towns, leaving roads submerged and homes exposed to water damage. A powerful windstorm that accompanied the rain worsened conditions along the coast, heightening fears of structural damage and disruptions to residents’ livelihoods.
In Agorte, eyewitnesses reported that water levels rose swiftly, making it hard for people and vehicles to move around. At Gobah Beach, the combined effect of the rain and strong winds interrupted daily routines, with some households saying water had entered their premises.
Authorities have been notified, and a team will be dispatched to the affected areas to evaluate the impact on property, infrastructure, and public safety. The review will also cover urgent needs such as temporary shelter, clearing of blocked drains, and any interference with transportation and trade along the shoreline.
There have been no reports of injuries or fatalities so far, though officials continue to monitor the situation. Weather experts have warned that similar conditions may continue through the day and have advised residents to steer clear of flood-prone zones.
Dzelukope and Keta, both situated along the Volta Region’s coastline, are often exposed to seasonal rains and tidal flooding. Local leaders have previously urged for better drainage infrastructure and stronger coastal defenses to address the recurring problem.
More details will be released once the assessments are completed.
