Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson (Finance Minister)

Full funding for the multi-billion-dollar Accra-Kumasi Expressway project will be completely secured by the end of the year without taking on any debt, according to Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Speaking on the major infrastructure project, Dr. Forson highlighted that securing full financial backing ahead of construction marks an unprecedented milestone for Ghana at this scale.

"By the end of this year, the full funding for the transformational Accra-Kumasi Expressway will be ready," Dr. Forson confirmed. "This could be the first time funds for a project of this scale have been fully secured before construction begins. For the avoidance of doubt, not a single pesewa will be borrowed for this project."

During his presentation of the Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review, the Minister revealed that $1.7 billion has already been mobilized and placed in a designated Bank of Ghana account to fund the build.

In addition to the financial update, Dr. Forson commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their work on site preparation, noting significant progress in clearing the 176-kilometer right-of-way.

"Hearty congratulations to our indefatigable army on a stellar job," he added.
