Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, met today with Her Excellency Carolyn Allison Rodrigues-Birkett, a candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General.
The engagement provided an opportunity for H.E. Rodrigues-Birkett to outline her strategic vision, priorities, and roadmap for the United Nations as she campaigns for the organization's top leadership role. The discussion offered Hon. Ablakwa key insights into her long-term objectives for the global body.
Rodrigues-Birkett brings over 25 years of public service and high-level leadership experience in both national and international governance. Her extensive career includes appointments as Guyana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and International Cooperation, Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Member of Parliament, and Permanent Representative to the United Nations. She also began her career in public service as a primary school teacher in her hometown of Santa Rosa.
The bilateral meeting served as a constructive platform to exchange views on United Nations reforms, focusing on strategies to enhance the efficiency of the world's primary multilateral institution and better serve global priorities, particularly those of the Global South.
