Military Operation Clears Trader Structures at Anloga Junction

1 min read

A joint demolition exercise led by military personnel has resulted in the clearance of temporary commercial structures at Anloga Junction, located within the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The operation saw the destruction of several container shops and wooden kiosks operated by local business owners and traders.

This action follows recent tensions in the area, occurring just nine days after a public protest staged by tomato cargo transporters, taxi drivers, and plywood workers. On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, these groups demonstrated against what they termed a forced eviction initiative by a private developer seeking to construct a project on the property.

The affected commercial operators maintain that they have used the site for over 45 years. Prior to the demolition, they had requested official clarification regarding land ownership, raised doubts over the legal documentation provided by the developer, and appealed to the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly to mediate the conflict.

Despite their appeals for official intervention and due process, the land dispute remained unsettled prior to the enforcement exercise.
