Ghana's Minister for Defence, Honourable Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, led a high-level military delegation on Thursday, September 10, 2026, to inspect ongoing construction at the Ajumako Military Barracks in the Central Region. The visiting delegation included Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu. The site visit aimed to review structural progress and verify that construction aligns with established timelines and quality standards. Brigadier General Jonas Agyei Wiafe, Director General of Engineer Services, provided a comprehensive project briefing detailing the status of various components across the site. Honourable Adjei expressed satisfaction with the contractor, Imperial Homes, for maintaining the project schedule despite adjustments to the original blueprint. However, he emphasized that project consultants must maintain strict oversight to enforce quality assurance and ensure all specifications are met. Lieutenant General Agyapong also commended the construction team for their dedication and rapid pace. He noted that developing military infrastructure in the newly created six regions is a key component of the Ghana Armed Forces' broader operational expansion. The CDS highlighted that this strategic initiative includes two active base developments, located at Dambai and Ajumako. He assured project managers of ongoing support from the Military High Command to ensure timely completion. Upon completion, the facility will be officially named Erskine Barracks in honor of the late Major General Alexander Erskine (Rtd), a distinguished former COAS and former Commander of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO).
