Gov’t delegation led by the Volta Regional Minister and Adaklu MP support mudslide victims with Ghs20,000

Government officials have paid a visit to Adaklu-Helekpe to sympathize with families affected by the devastating mudslide that struck the community following torrential rains on Wednesday.

The delegation included the Volta Regional Minister Hon. James Gunu, Member of Parliament for Adaklu and Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, and the District Chief Executive, Jerry Yao Ameko, who joined efforts to assess the extent of destruction and offer support to victims.

The mudslide, which descended from the Adaklu Mountain after hours of heavy rainfall, buried at least five houses and nine vehicles, leaving several residents displaced and traumatized.

The incident has thrown the entire community into a state of distress, with affected families struggling to come to terms with the sudden destruction of their homes and properties. Authorities say the situation remains one of the most severe natural disasters to hit the area in recent times.

As part of the visit, the officials also visited injured victims receiving treatment at the Ho Teaching Hospital, popularly known as Trafalgar.

In a gesture of support and solidarity, a donation of GHS 20,000 was made to assist with the medical expenses of the mudslide victims, while also supporting other children currently on admission at the ward. The donation was warmly received by hospital authorities and families of the patients.

Government representatives further disclosed that discussions had been held with the regional leadership of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), who were on-site shortly after the incident. The agency has been tasked to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the affected area to determine whether it remains safe for habitation and to recommend the necessary interventions to prevent future occurrences.

Officials assured residents that government remains committed to ensuring the safety, relief, and long-term wellbeing of all persons affected by the disaster.

 They called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as investigations and recovery efforts continue. The visit also served as a moment of encouragement to the affected families, with leaders pledging continued support until normalcy is restored in the community.
