As part of ongoing peacebuilding and community support efforts, the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Veterinary Team of Ghana Battalion 13 (GHANBATT 13), serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), successfully carried out a five-day veterinary outreach in Adok Payam and Dhornor, located in Leer County.
Held from Wednesday, September 9 to Monday, September 14, 2026, the exercise was designed to enhance animal health and reinforce food security for rural pastoral communities operating within the Battalion’s operational sector.
Under the direction of Captain Christopher Kelvin Dzakpasu, the GHANBATT Veterinary Officer, the team engaged local pastoralists with essential education on proper livestock management and the critical role of routine animal healthcare.
Collaborating with Leer County veterinary professionals Dr. Jal Dak and Dr. John Reng, the joint medical team administered treatments and preventive care to over 4,000 head of cattle, sheep, and goats.
This initiative highlights GHANBATT 13's ongoing commitment to empowering local livelihoods while deepening trust and civil-military relations with the host population.
