H.E President John Mahama has declared the government’s readiness to partner with vehicle manufacturers, financial institutions, and private sector players. The proposed collaboration aims to establish robust, long-term financing arrangements, allowing citizens to purchase locally assembled vehicles and clear the cost conveniently through flexible salary deductions over time.
Speaking at the official commissioning of the third phase of the Zonda Tec Ghana Limited assembly plant, President Mahama emphasized that boosting domestic manufacturing capacity is only half the battle. He noted that for local vehicle assembly to truly thrive, it must be supported by accessible credit facilities and financial instruments that align with the earnings of Ghanaian workers. Without affordable payment structures, the ambition of building a strong automotive industry would remain out of reach for the majority of the population.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for foreign direct investment, industrial growth, and job creation within the country’s automotive sector. By aligning financial institutions with local assembly plants like Zonda Tec, the initiative aims to simultaneously stimulate domestic manufacturing, reduce reliance on imported used vehicles, and empower the workforce with affordable, reliable transportation options.
