Plans are underway to roll out live broadcasts of General Assembly and Town Hall sessions across all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), according to Local Government Minister Mahama Ayariga.
The initiative is being executed in partnership with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to deepen local governance, enhance public accountability, and encourage greater citizen involvement.
Sharing the update on Facebook on Tuesday, September 15, Mr. Ayariga noted that the project aligns with the provisions of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).
He explained that airing these proceedings will offer the public direct insight into assembly deliberations and decision-making processes, creating a platform for stronger public oversight of MMDA operations.
Additionally, the Minister highlighted that the initiative aims to spur civic interest in the upcoming District-Level Elections while motivating more Ghanaians to participate in decentralization efforts.
By making local assembly meetings widely accessible, the ministry hopes to bridge the gap between residents and local authorities, fostering a more participatory and open governance structure.
