The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) has donated 4,000 coconut seedlings to the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Hon. Edem Agbana, in a move aimed at promoting agricultural development and enhancing economic opportunities within the constituency. The donation forms part of efforts to support farmers and strengthen Ghana’s growing non-traditional export sector through increased coconut production.
The seedlings were presented on behalf of the Authority by Madam Doris Ama Bansah(Volta & Oti Coordinator), during a brief ceremony. The gesture underscores GEPA’s commitment to supporting agricultural value chains and encouraging the cultivation of export-oriented crops that can contribute significantly to local and national economic growth.
Receiving the seedlings, Hon. Edem Agbana expressed appreciation to the Authority for the support and emphasized the importance of agriculture in the socio-economic development of Ketu North. He noted that coconut cultivation has immense potential to create jobs, generate income for farming households, and position the constituency as a major contributor to Ghana’s coconut industry.
The initiative is expected to benefit local farmers by providing them with quality planting materials to expand their farms and increase production. Beyond improving livelihoods, the project is anticipated to stimulate agribusiness activities, create employment opportunities for young people, and enhance value addition within the agricultural sector.
Stakeholders believe the donation will contribute to sustainable agricultural growth and strengthen efforts to diversify Ghana’s export base. With the distribution and cultivation of the seedlings, Ketu North is expected to witness increased coconut production in the coming years, creating long-term economic benefits for farmers and the wider community.
