Bahamas Renews Work Permits for Ghanaian Construction and Engineering Workers

2 min read

In a significant boost to Ghana-Bahamas bilateral relations, the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas has agreed to renew work permits for Ghanaian professionals in the construction and engineering sectors. The workers, who have been operating under private business initiatives, can now continue their contributions to the Bahamian economy without interruption. This development was announced by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who shared the positive update on social media.

The decision follows constructive and fruitful discussions between Ghanaian and Bahamian authorities aimed at resolving permit-related challenges. Both sides demonstrated strong commitment to fostering mutual cooperation, leading to a swift and amicable resolution that benefits skilled Ghanaian expatriates and their host nation. The renewal underscores the value placed on the expertise and dedication of Ghanaian professionals in key infrastructure sectors.

Hon. Ablakwa expressed profound appreciation for the leadership and collaborative spirit shown by The Bahamas’ Minister of State for Immigration, The Honourable Darron S. Pickstock, MP. Describing Pickstock’s approach as “remarkable,” the Ghanaian minister highlighted how effective diplomacy and open dialogue helped achieve this favorable outcome for Ghanaian nationals working abroad.

This agreement reflects the growing international recognition of Ghanaian talent in construction and engineering fields. Many Ghanaians have made substantial contributions to development projects in The Bahamas, strengthening economic ties between the two countries. The move is expected to enhance job security for the affected workers and encourage further skilled labor mobility under regulated frameworks.

The announcement, accompanied by photographs from the engagement, has been warmly received by Ghanaians both at home and in the diaspora. It serves as a testament to effective foreign policy engagement and the importance of sustained diplomatic partnerships in protecting the interests of Ghanaian citizens overseas.
